I really enjoy reading blog tags. I came across the Reading Habits Book Tag while reading The Bibliophile Girls blog. I really liked the questions and so I decided to give it a go for myself! We all have our own habits for reading, its a personal experience from which we take comfort in our own ways. Here are my reading habits:
Do you have a favourite place at home to read?
For me I mostly read in bed. It’s where I feel most comfortable and relaxed. I liked to hide in my duvet with a book and read without any disturbances or noise. I also like to snuggle on the sofa with a blanket and a book.
Do you use bookmarks or scraps of paper?
I definitely like to use a bookmark. I used to be one of those corner folders but now I hate to leave creases on the corners of my pages. When I grab a book I make sure a bookmark is nearby or placed further back in the book so I can quickly mark my page if I need to.
Can you stop reading on any page or do you need to finish the chapter?
I can’t just stop mid-chapter. It really confuses me when I come back to a read in the middle of a chapter. It’s much easier for me to recap what happened last chapter and start from the next one. Obviously there are times when you have to stop immediately but if I can help it, I will keep going till the end of the chapter.
Do you eat and drink while reading?
I usually don’t like to get dirty marks on my books so I don’t really eat while I’m reading. If I’m hungry for a snack or meal I will eat and then clean my hands then start reading. I’m also one of those people who rarely drinks hot drinks. I really dislike tea and coffee, bleugh!
Multitasking while reading: Music or TV?
I am a huge multitasker. I am always juggling 10 things at once. Sometimes I have to stop and force my brain to focus on the book and not whatever else is going on in my mind. I hate sitting in silence for this reason, being left alone with my thoughts never ends well. It’s just like having company in the room without actually having it. It has to be turned down really quietly though.
Do you read one book at a time or more?
I can only read one at a time. All the stories just get mixed up in my head otherwise. If I can help it I will even read one series consecutively too. While it would probably be quicker to read more than one at a time, I just struggle to do it.
Do you only read at home or elsewhere?
I mostly read at home. If I know there is going to be a period of time where I have nothing to do while I am out however, I will take a book. This is usually when I crack out the Kindle app on my phone and read an ebook to save space in my bag.
Do you read out loud or in your head?
I try to stick to reading in my head because I read much more quickly that way. When my brain refuses to focus though I will read out loud so I can focus on the words more. I only do that at home though, not out in public!
Do you read ahead or skip pages?
I am guilty of this I wont lie. I won’t skip entire pages but sometimes I resort to skimming through boring scenes that just are not engaging me at all. If its not relevant to the story or character/world building I just don’t see the point in it and get bored.
Book condition: Breaking spines or preservation?
I try really hard not to bend the spines of my books. I want them to be in the best condition possible. Sometimes though, especially with paperbacks, I cant read the pages without slightly bending the book open. I never completely snap them though. The spine will get a few creases, minimum!
Do you write or doodle in your books?
Hell to the damn, NO! I just cannot under any circumstances bring myself to write in my books. If I wanted to annotate or doodle in a book that desperately I would go out of my way to purchase another copy solely for that purpose. To save money, I write my notes or doodle in a journal instead.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading about my reading habits for the Reading Habits Book Tag! I tag all of you guys to go and give this a try for yourselves!
