I have been browsing for new YA Fantasy books on Netgalley and some of them really caught my eye! I thought I would create a post showcasing some of the books I am most looking forward to when they release. Here are some new YA Fantasy releases I am looking forward to in 2019:
The Memory Thief By Lauren Mansy
In the city of Craewick, memories reign. The power-obsessed ruler of the city, Madame, has cultivated a society in which memories are currency, citizens are divided by ability, and Gifted individuals can take memories from others through touch as they please.
The concept behind the story of this book is fantastic! I’ll admit it was the cover that initially caught my eye but the synopsis really got me as well! Memories are so precious. The idea of them being currency and something someone can take away with a single touch is fascinating. I like that the cover features a key hole, illustrating the act of unlocking someone’s mind and taking what’s inside. Not to mention, the idea of bad memories being able to be removed? I don’t know about you guys but I wouldn’t mind some of my bad memories being taken!
I feel like its a really original take on a fantasy story and I am very excited to read this! Out of all these YA Fantasy releases, this is the one I am most looking forward to. The Memory Thief by Lauren Mansy releases October 1st 2019 with Blink.
Gravemaidens By Kelly Coon
The start of a fierce fantasy duology about three maidens who are chosen for their land’s greatest honor…and one girl determined to save her sister from the grave.
In the walled city-state of Alu, Kammani wants nothing more than to become the accomplished healer her father used to be before her family was cast out of their privileged life in shame.
When Alu’s ruler falls deathly ill, Kammani’s beautiful little sister, Nanaea, is chosen as one of three sacred maidens to join him in the afterlife. It’s an honor. A tradition. And Nanaea believes it is her chance to live an even grander life than the one that was stolen from her. But Kammani sees the selection for what it really is—a death sentence.
The cover, again, beautiful! It instantly caught my eye. This is another storyline that I thought was interesting to see unfold. I think this could be a really beautiful story about a girl and her sister in an epic fantasy setting. Though I do love romance in my books, its also heart-warming to see family love. It’s inspiring to see the lengths people will go to for the ones they love. Gravemaidens releases 29 Oct 2019 with Random House Children’s.
Beyond The Black Door By A.M. Strickland
Beyond the Black Door is a young adult dark fantasy about unlocking the mysteries around and within us—no matter the cost …
Everyone has a soul. Some are beautiful gardens, others are frightening dungeons. Soulwalkers like Kamai and her mother can journey into other people’s souls while they sleep. But no matter where Kamai visits, she sees the black door. It follows her into every soul, and her mother has told her to never, ever open it. When Kamai touches the door, it is warm and beating, like it has a pulse. When she puts her ear to it, she hears her own name whispered from the other side. And when tragedy strikes, Kamai does the unthinkable: she opens the door.
Similarly to The Memory Thief, Beyond The Black Door taps deep into the human psyche to unlock what is in our minds and I love that. Beyond The Black Door focuses on the soul and I like that it unearths a vulnerability to humanity. The fact Kamai opens the door, it’s like that old saying about being told not to do something makes you want to do it more. Another really intriguing find that I am super excited to read this year. Beyond The Black Door releases 29 Oct 2019 with Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.
Above are just a handful of some of the YA Fantasy releases I am looking forward to in 2019. What book releases are you looking forward to this year?
