My Top 5 binge-worthy animé series

My Top 5 binge-worthy animé series

When you have so much time on your hands, it can be hard to find new things to keep entertained. It feels like you’ve watched everything! So I decided to come up with my favourite binge-worthy animé series to fill your free time.

Himouto! Umaru-chan

This is my first choice because it is my favourite anime series of all time. It was the first one I ever watched and to this day I could watch it over and over. I relate to little chibi Umaru so much. It’s funny, relatable, and utterly adorable. You can watch series 1 for free on Crunchyroll.

The plot: The series follows Umaru Doma, a high school girl who lives with her older brother Taihei or “onii-chan”. At school, Umaru appears to her peers to be the ideal student. She has the good looks, top grades, and a lot of talent in the creative arts. Once she gets home, however, she reverts into a layabout who spends her time lazing around. Playing video games, and constantly depending on her older brother, much to his dismay. – Himouto! Umaru-chan Wiki

Little Witch Academia

I watched this for the first time a few months ago and I fell in love with it. I love witches and magic and this series has all of that and so much more! You can watch both the short films and the television series on Netflix with English voice acting. Little Witch Academia comes first, followed by The Enchanted Parade and then the TV Series. There is also a video game available on Steam.

Plot: Little Witch Academia takes place at the Luna Nova Magical Academy. A prestigious school for young girls training to become witches. Inspired by a witch named Shiny Chariot, Akko Kagari enrolls at Luna Nova Magical Academy to become a witch. Unfortunately, struggles due to her non-magical background. This all changes when she discovers the Shiny Rod, a powerful magic relic left behind by Chariot. The television series follow Akko and her friends, Lotte and Sucy. They experience many magical adventures together, and recounts everything seen in the previous films. – Little Witch Academia Wiki

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

This is a mythical everyday life comedy about a hard working office lady living with a dragon girl. A slice of life animated show. This is a fairly new animé, with only one series having been released so far last year. The humour is definitely different, I found it strange to begin with. As I kept watching it got progressively funnier. You get to know the characters and their individual personalities. Kanna is my favourite character, she’s so darn cute!

Plot: Kobayashi lives alone in an apartment, until one day, Tohru appeared and they ended up living together. Kyobashi unintentionally found Tohru while walking home from being drunk, and asks her to come over. Tohru looks down on humans as inferior and foolish. But, having been saved by Kobayashi, she does everything she can to help her with various things. However, not everything goes according to plan. – IMDb

Yuri!!! on ICE

I watched this after hearing so many people hyping up how good it was. I thought I had to go and see what all the fuss was about. There is an English Subtitled version on Crunchyroll. But I decided to watch the English Dub version because I much preferred the English voice acting. The songs are fantastic and I really enjoyed watching Yuri’s confidence grow through the episodes.

Plot: Yuri Katsuki carried the hope of all Japan on his shoulders in the Figure Skating Grand Prix. He suffered a crushing defeat in the finals and returned to his home town and hid away in his family’s home. This defeat left him half wanting to continue skating and half wanting to retire. That was when the five-time consecutive world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly showed up with his team mate, Yuri Plisetsky. A young skater starting to surpass his seniors. The two Yuris and Russian champion Viktor set out to compete in a Grand Prix. – Crunchyroll

The Seven Deadly Sins

I found this series on Netflix while searching for a new animé to binge. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did but the first season was so entertaining! The story is really intricate and compelling. The more you watch the more you want to know about the characters and their individual backgrounds.

Plot: Set in a world similar to the European Middle Ages. The feared yet revered Holy Knights of Britannia use powerful magic to protect the region of Britannia and its kingdoms. However, a small subset of the Knights supposedly betrayed their homeland. They turned their blades against their comrades in an attempt to overthrow the ruler of Liones. Defeated by the Holy Knights, Rumours continued to persist that the “Seven Deadly Sins,” were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights themselves staged a coup d’état. Becoming the new, tyrannical rulers of the Kingdom. – MyAnimeList
