This series follows my experience weekly as a Publishing Media MA student! Last week was the first week of official lectures! This week followed the same format with a few minor differences here and there.
Guest Speakers and Events
This week the weekly lunchtime talk sessions began! I really enjoy listening to interesting lectures so I was very much looking forward to this. This week was a talk on scientific publishing within the field of academic publishing. As someone with a strong interest in academic publishing I was really invested in this one in particular.
We learnt a lot about the history behind academic publishing and about the processes of acquiring content from researchers and the like. It was really interesting to learn more about what working in that area of publishing could be like!
Preparing for deadlines
This week we received a bit more information about our upcoming coursework and deadlines for this month. It reinforced in my mind that as much as I am really enjoying being a publishing student, I do actually need to pass! I like to be one step ahead to alleviate my brain from constant anxiety and worry. For two of the modules we need to already start thinking about the coursework and be prepared for submission in a few weeks time!
Goals for next week
Next week I would like to have completed my first assignment for the Design and Production module. For this we need to design a book cover. I already have my idea and design I just need to put it all together on Adobe InDesign and get it checked over before handing it in.
I would also like to get my CV looked over by the careers advisers so I can start putting some effort into getting publishing work experience!
This week went OK. However, I am hoping to be able to spend more time keeping on top of things for next week.
