As you can imagine, having any kind of full-time commitment makes finding time to maintain my blog and social media channels very difficult. Being a content creator alongside studying has been something I have been juggling for years, here are some of my top tips:
1. Plan and Schedule ahead of time
This is primarily how I manage to maintain some kind of consistency here on my blog. I try to make sure I dedicate a few hours at the weekend to writing and scheduling blog posts to go up during the week. As long as I post at least once or twice, it’s better than not at all! WordPress has a scheduling feature which means it will publish written drafts at any day or time of your choice and it will automatically post for you!
2. Maintain a balance
This is easier said than done, I know! Plenty of times I have thrown myself into my online content and neglected by other commitments. It is important however to maintain a balance. Make sure each area of your life is getting the time and attention it needs. If that means you can’t post to your blog for a few days then so be it! Don’t neglect your studies!
3. Create To-Do Lists
This really helps me keep my mind in order. Especially when I have so many things that need to be done by certain days and times. Sit down when you have some spare time and work out what you want to get done. Today I am using my morning to schedule some blog and twitter posts for the upcoming week and later I have some reading to do for university.
4. Blog Hopping and Social Media
We all spend time on our phones while waiting for the bus or during our lunch break. Why not use that time to maintain your social media presence! It might not be enough time to write an entire blog post but you can still like other bloggers posts, retweet, like and comment on some Instagram posts. Even if you’re not posting yourself, you can still let people know you’re still around by staying active.
5. Write down and Save Ideas for Later
Sometimes I come up with awesome blog post ideas while I’m out and then I when I sit down to blog I can’t think of anything to write. Thinking of actual blog post ideas takes me longer than it does to actually write them. If you take a note every time you have an idea for a post then refer back when you find some time to blog, you will save some time and energy and can get straight to writing!
