I can’t quite believe that it has been an entire year since I started blogging. I have been content creating for years but this time last year I decided to try something new and I have loved every second of it! I have always wanted to run a blog but I never really had the technical skills. One day I sat down and taught myself how to use WordPress. How to set up a self-hosted blog, all about purchasing domains and most importantly how to do it cheaply!
I had been drawn in by services like Wix and been completely ripped off financially and decided it was time that I learned how to self-host. It is so much cheaper and I love having full creative control over my content.
What I have learned along the way
At one point I was juggling two blogs. This one and another gaming blog. I quickly learned that trying to run more than one blog was extremely exhausting and that it was borderline impossible for me to be successful in both with the amount of free time I have.
I also learned how important niches are. Before I started posting about books on my blog I was writing about everything and anything on here. I was getting no interaction and I had no social media accounts associated with it. I was just aimlessly writing and posting, hoping people were reading! As soon as I niched down my content and started actively using Instagram and Twitter I saw my blog sore to new heights!
Being part of any online community generates drama. You go to sleep one night and wake up to a social media storm about any number of controversial things. I have learned to just keep my mouth shut. Just stay out of it because it is not worth getting involved. I just keep my head down and keep myself to myself because being known for popping off isn’t something I want for my brand. I mute/unfollow accounts I notice are prone to generating drama or negative content and move forward.
What I hope for the future
I hope my blog continues to grow the way it has been since I made improvements back in February. I hope I continue to make the most amazing connections with people and maintain the ones I already have. I have had the pleasure to be acquainted with so many lovely, supportive people. Finally, I hope that my blog opens me up to new opportunity’s and that it continues to be something I enjoy doing as much as I do now. I’d love for blogging to me my full-time job but I feel like that is a highly unrealistic goal at this stage!
Thank you to everyone who supports my content across all platforms, I appreciate it so much! Here’s to starting another year in the bloggersphere!
