Birthday Book Haul

Birthday Book Haul

Wednesday the 6th of November is my birthday! I am going to be 24 (time is going way too fast, it’s crazy!) I’m at university all day on the day of my birthday, have an exam the day before and a deadline too. So, I wanted to use this weekend to treat myself! Of course, my idea of a treat is new books… lots of new books:

Waterstones’ Signed Special Edition of Ninth House By Leigh Bardugo

Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. By age twenty, in fact, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most elite universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

Leigh Bardugo did a special signing event in Oxford with Samantha Shannon and I was so gutted I missed it. My awesome friend Sarah sent me a link to a tweet from Waterstones in Oxford saying that they had some signed copies for sale in the store and I knew I had to get my hands on one. The Waterstones special edition features a stunning blue foil cover and it is BEAUTIFUL!

The Bone Season Signed By Samantha Shannon

The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.

We all know how much I love Samantha and her work. So naturally I leapt at the chance to get another signed book from the wonderful lady herself. I already got my copy of The Priory of the Orange Tree signed at YALC this summer so I decided to pick up a copy of The Bone Season. I really want to read this series from her!

Angel Mage by Garth Nix

More than a century has passed since Liliath crept into the empty sarcophagus of Saint Marguerite, fleeing the Fall of Ystara. But she emerges from her magical sleep still beautiful, looking no more than nineteen, and once again renews her single-minded quest to be united with her lover, Palleniel, the archangel of Ystara…

As much as I love to pick up books from my list of books I already know I want to read. Sometimes I like to pick up something completely new to me. I was browsing the shelves for something dark and mysterious and Angel Mage really caught my eye! (It is also signed which is another bonus.) It has this dark and twisted undertone that gripped me, I had to read the story and go on this epic fantasy adventure.

Heartstopper Vol.1 by Alice Oseman

Charlie, a highly-strung, openly gay over-thinker, and Nick, a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player, meet at a British all-boys grammar school. Friendship blooms quickly, but could there be something more…?

This addition to the haul, as well as the ones below, are birthday gifts from my boyfriend! I have seen so many people raving about how good this graphic novel is! Beautiful illustrations and LGBT representation in a YA? Count me in! I can’t wait to snuggle up in my blanket with a warm drink and get all the warm fuzzy vibes from this story.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Kell is one of the last Antarimagicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black. After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive…

I am actually yet to read anything by V.E. Schwab which I feel is a crime in itself. I need to change that ASAP! So many people have told me how much they think I would like it so it’s about time I got round to reading it.

City of Heavenly Fire By Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments Collection six internationally bestselling books about the Shadowhunters in one gift pack. Discover the secrets of the Shadowhunters as they wage a terrifying war to keep the world safe from demons in the sensational and internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments, I REALLY need to finish this series. After my blip with City of Fallen Angels and how much I disliked it I haven’t felt very motivated to continue. I do now own the entire series so I can power on through with the last two books and hopefully things recover.

I hope you enjoyed my birthday book haul. What books did you purchase recently? Comment down below!
